CRYSTALLL problematises the ornamental function of performance.
We call performance's "ornamental function" its formal dimension, its capacity to give visual pleasure initself, without any other discursive aim than defining aesthetics through its formal properties (ornamentthen appears as non-useful, freed from representative roles); the ornamental object doesn't represent aconcept other than itself but lets itself be contemplated without a link to an absent object. The "spectacular function" is its backside, the ability to bewitch, through which a performance can absorbits audience.
The spectacular ornament, without describing another idea than its own being, then implements anaesthetic experience without object.
CRYSTALLL is a spectacular ornament that implements critique, not of the stage object but of its perception. We want to produce a double movement for the spectator:

- attraction, fascination for spectacularity
- auto-realisation, awareness and wonderment for this state

Both directions are implemented by the same elements, without proposing a critique of the represented object but provoking for the audience to criticize their own gaze. We're interested in a critical relation that doesn't moralise such representations but brings about a doubt between conceptions and experience. Rather than directing all elements in the same direction, CRYSTALLL creates a conflict that doesn’t ask for solutions. CRYSTALLL offers itself to a continuous practice of merging and distancing with/from a spectacular moment.

BIOGRAPHIES

Alice Chauchat (choreography)

Alice Chauchat, born 1977 in Saint-Etienne (France), lives in Paris. She studied in the „Conservatoire National Supérieur de Lyon“ and at „P.A.R.T.S“, Brussels. Founding member of the collective B.D.C. with Tom Plischke, Martin Nachbar and Hendrik Laevens, they create together Events for Television, Affects and (Re)sort between 1999 and 2001. 2001 she presents her first solo Quotation marks me. Study follows then the duet choreographies, and in 2003, A Number of Classics in the Age of Performance, in collaboration with Vera Knolle. 2004 she makes J'aime together with Anne Juren, and CRYSTALLL, a collaboration with Alix Eynaudi. She also takes part in other people's projects, such as projet,
initiated by Xavier Le Roy or avant-garde by Marten Spangberg,
   
Alix Eynaudi (choreography and dance)

Alix Eynaudi, born 1976 in Aix-en-Provence (France), lives in Brussels. After studying at the Paris Opera School and dancing for ballet companies she joined P.A.R.T.S. (Brussels).In 1995 she performed in "Prometheo", an opera by Luigi Nono, directed by Robert Wilson. 1996-2002 she danced with Rosas, Anne Teresa de Keersmaeker’s company. The company created and toured during this period Just Before , Woud, Drumming , I said I, Achterland, In Real Time, Rain, Fase , April Me, and shot Counterphrases with Thierry de Mey. In 2003, she took part in Collect-if, collaborative project with Emil Hrvatin, Bojana Cjevic, Ugo Dehaes,Varinia Canto Vila, Katarina Stegnar and Rebecca Murgi. She is currently taking part in we are all Marlene Dietrich, a project by Emil Hrvatin and Erna Omarsdottir, and created in collaboration with Alice Chauchat the solo CRYSTALLL, in which she is performing. She also teaches workshops, a.o in Ljubljana and Brussels (P.A.R.T.S.).
   
Bruno Pocheron (light design)

Born in France 1968, Bruno Pocheron lives in Berlin. After stuying at the Beaux Arts school in Dijon, he met live performance and worked as technical director for differents places and festivals (Nouvelles Scènes, Les Inaccoutumés in the Ménagerie de Verre, Les Laboratoires d’ Aubervilliers, Kampnagel Hamburg). Since 1996, he collaborates internationally as technical director, light designer, set designer or performer in performance projects, notably with Christine De Smedt (9 times 9), Judith Depaule (Illuminations, Accrochez-moi), Lilia Mestre and Davis Freeman (Untitle Me, Too Shy To Stare), Mette Edvardsen (Standing People) or Felix Ruckert (Hautnah, Krapplack, Deluxe Joy Pilot). He currently works with Isabelle Schad (The Better You Look The More You See, Good Work), Xavier Le Roy (Projet), Eszter Salamon (Reproduction), Marten Spangberg (Powered By Emotion), Alice Chauchat and Anne Juren (J’aime), Alice Chauchat and Alix Eynaudi (CRYSTALLL).
   
Alexander Wolff (set design)

This artist, born 1976 in Osterburg (Germany), studied at the Städelschule Frankfurt and the Academy Of Fine Arts Vienna. Since 1998 numerous exhibitions in different institutions all over Europe, e.g. 2002: Kunsthof Zürich, Galerie Kerstin Engholm, Vienna. 2003: Galerie Mezzanin,Vienna; Secession, Vienna. 2004: Galerie Johann Widauer, Innsbruck; Autocenter, Berlin; Flaca Galerie, London. Since 2002 co-publisher of the Vienna based art magazines Chicago, Times, Plotter, Helvetica, DIN, Techno, Löhfelm. Since 2003 collaborations with Alice Chauchat (J'aime, Quotation marks me, CRYSTALLL).
Lives and works in Berlin and Vienna.
